Group Swim Lessons
Our swim lesson program is adapted from the Red Cross "Learn to Swim Program". We offer a wide variety of classes for every ability level, preschool age through adult. Classes are offered Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays year round at Courtsports Eugene.
To register for swim lessons, contact the Service Desk. Registration must be completed and payment made to guarantee a spot in class. Classes require a minimum of 3 students; similar class levels may be combined in order to achieve the 3-student minimum. Courtsports reserves the right to cancel any class with limited participation.
Group Swimming Lesson Levels
Preschool Aquatics: (ages 3 to 5)
Designed to orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to begin working on basic aquatic skills such as enter & exit the water, blow bubbles through mouth & nose, go under water, bobbing, front & back glides, retrieve submerged objects and learn how to stay safe in the water.
Level 1
Water Exploration (Shallow water lesson)
♦ Fully submerge face in water
♦ Back float unsupported for 10 second
♦Be able to push off bottom of the pool to reach surface
♦ Kicking on front and back with support
♦ Enter and exit the water independently
level 2
Primary Skills (Shallow water lesson)
♦ Float on front and back unsupported for 5 seconds
♦ Swim on front 10 feet without assistance
♦ Swim on back 10 feet without assistance
♦ Retrieve objects under water chest deep
♦ Bobs in water over the child’s head
level 3
Stroke Readiness (Mid-pool lesson: shallow and deep)
♦ Swim for 10 yards
♦Jump into deep water, reach the surface and the wall without assistance
♦Kicking with a board for 25 yards
♦ Elementary backstroke for 10 yards
Level 4
Stroke Development (Deep water lesson)
♦ Deep water bobs
♦ Front & back crawl 25 yards (entire length of pool)
♦Dolphin kick and Breaststroke kick 15 yards
level 5
Stroke Refinement (Deep water lesson)
♦ Front & back crawl for 50 yards
♦ Breaststroke & sidestroke for 15 yards
♦ Elementary backstroke for 25 yards
level 6
Skill Proficiency (Deep water lesson)
♦ Front & back crawl 100 yards
♦ Breaststroke & sidestroke 25 yards
♦ Swim the butterfly 10 yards
Level 7
Advanced Skills (Deep water lesson)
♦ Flip turns
♦ Touch turns
♦ Swim continuously 300 yards
♦ Tread water for 5 minutes
♦ Individual Medley (100 yards) with appropriate turns
Pre-Competition
Once completing all 7 levels, the individual will be given a variety of swimming sets including endurance training, time sets, drill, and pace sets. This is also an option for those who are training for triathlons.
